Part of The Hellbender Regional Trail System

Chestnut Mountain will be an important stop along the Hellbender Trail, a 150-mile regional greenway system that is being championed by The Land of Sky Regional Council and local governments. A greenway section is planned to run along Highway 19/23 from the Haywood County line east into Canton. Residents of Canton will one day be able to bike to Chestnut Mountain from downtown Canton. The NC Department of Transportation is leading the development of this project, with support from the Town and County.
